Revolution Square metro station
One of the most beautiful Moscow metro stations. It is famed for its 76 bronze sculptures by Matvey Manizer, depicting Soviet citizens — from soldiers and sailors to farmers and students. A beloved local tradition is rubbing the nose of the bronze border guard's dog for good luck, which has polished it to a shine over the years.

The Bolshoi Theatre
A global icon of performing arts, the Bolshoi Theatre stands as Moscow's cultural heart. This historic theatre, which reopened in 2011 after a grand six-year renovation, features a stunning neoclassical facade that is a landmark of the city . It houses the world's biggest ballet company, boasting more than 200 dancers, and has hosted monumental premieres like Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake .

The Red Square
A visit to Moscow would be incomplete without stepping onto the cobblestones of Red Square. This vast rectangular plaza, originally a 15th-century marketplace, has witnessed coronations, military parades, and historic speeches . Its name is derived from the archaic Russian word for "beautiful," and it is surrounded by architectural marvels like St. Basil's Cathedral and the State Historical Museum .

St. Basil's Cathedral is Russia's most iconic landmark, instantly recognizable by its vibrant onion domes. It was commissioned by Ivan the Terrible in 1555 to commemorate his conquest of the Tatar stronghold of Kazan and was completed in 1561. The cathedral is actually a single structure housing nine separate chapels arranged around a central tent-roofed church, each dedicated to a saint whose feast day coincided with a key battle of the Kazan campaign. UNESCO protected.

From the outside, St. Basil's Cathedral looks like a single fairytale castle — but step inside, and you'll discover it's actually a complex of 11 separate churches! Each of its iconic domes crowns a distinct chapel, complete with its own altar and iconostasis. The interior is equally fascinating: the frescoes date back to the 17th century, yet restoration work has revealed even older layers of decoration beneath, offering visitors a rare glimpse into how the cathedral's artistry evolved over the centuries.

Zaryadye Park
Step into Zaryadye Park, a modern urban oasis that opened in 2017 on the banks of the Moskva River. Designed by the same architects behind New York's High Line, this 13-hectare park is divided into four climatic zones — tundra, steppe, forest, and floodplains — offering visitors a journey through Russia's diverse landscapes in one afternoon. The park's Soaring Bridge, a 70-meter V-shaped structure extending over the river without any supporting pillars, is an architectural marvel. From its wooden deck, you can take in breathtaking views of the Kremlin and the colorful domes of St. Basil's Cathedral — a perfect blend of nature and history.

GUM department store
More than a department store, GUM is an architectural icon on Red Square. Opened in 1893, its glass-roofed arcades and 20,000-pane skylights are engineering marvels of their time. During the Soviet era, it was one of the few places with goods in stock, drawing queues across Red Square. Today, GUM blends history with luxury, offering visitors a chance to shop, admire the architecture, and enjoy Russia's famous ice cream.

Nikolskaya street
Nikolskaya Street — the lively pedestrian walkway that connects Red Square with Lubyanka Square. During the 2018 World Cup, it became the unofficial epicentre of fan celebrations, with supporters from every corner of the globe gathering here to cheer in an electric atmosphere. But this street is more than just a party spot: it's home to the Kazan Cathedral, Russia's first printing house (the Holy Synod Printing Offices), and the historic Old Mint. Walk its cobblestones and you'll feel centuries of history beneath your feet.

KGB headquarters
The notorious Lubyanka building has been the headquarters of Russia's state security services since 1919, housing the Cheka, NKVD, and later the KGB, and it continues to operate as a key FSB facility today. Few visitors realize that this imposing structure was once a luxurious apartment building for the wealthy, built at the turn of the 20th century. The inner prison, which gained such a fearsome reputation, was not actually in the basement — it was located on the upper floors, and the "underground" feel was an elaborate psychological illusion created by the guards.

Tverskaya street
Tverskaya Street is Moscow's main thoroughfare and one of its most famous landmarks. It emerged as early as the 12th century, originally serving as the road connecting Moscow to its rival city of Tver. For centuries, it was the ceremonial route through which tsars entered the Kremlin from the northern capital. In the 1930s, the street was dramatically widened under Stalin's reconstruction plan, and many historic buildings were either demolished or, in some cases, physically moved back from the new street line. Today, it is the most expensive shopping street in Russia and was ranked the third most expensive in the world for commercial rent.

Manege square
It is a large pedestrian plaza in the heart of Moscow, connecting Red Square with Tverskaya Street. It underwent a major reconstruction in the 1990s, during which it was closed to traffic and an underground shopping center was built beneath it .

Alexander Garden
It is a historic public park along the western Kremlin wall, founded in 1821 and named after Tsar Alexander I . It is home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, with the Eternal Flame that has burned since 1967, and features the famous grotto ruins of the 1850s .
